What we take care of
- The permit, if you want it
We can pull the solar pool heating permit and coordinate the city's inspection. Pulling it yourself? The permit line comes off your quote.
- Plumbed, programmed and painted
We plumb the panels into the pool equipment, set them up in the pool's automation and paint the exposed pipe to match the house.
- HOA paperwork
We prepare the HOA application and the drawings and spec sheets the committee asks for.
- Your customer, your call
We can work only through you or talk with your customer directly, and quote your company or your customer, whichever you prefer.
- Paperwork when you need it
Our certificate of insurance and W-9 by email, whenever you ask.
- The warranty, handled
Most panels carry a 12-year manufacturer's warranty, and we handle the claim. Our own work carries a full year on parts and labor.
Title 24 pool heater requirements for new pools
A new pool that will be heated needs solar pool heating or a heat pump (or another renewable source) as its main heat. Gas can still be the backup. The same goes for an existing pool getting its first heater.
Choosing solar with a backup heater? The panels must cover at least 60% of the pool and spa surface (65% for community pools: HOA common areas, apartments, hotels and commercial). Heated by solar alone? There's no minimum; we size it for comfort.
Pool 450 + spa 50 = 500 sq ft. 500 × 60% = 300 sq ft of panels. Seven 4 × 12 ft panels = 336 sq ft (six would be 288).
A full-size system works best, and it's only a little more. We'll quote the permit minimum too, to keep the cost down.
Title 24 also asks for:
- A cover, for an outdoor pool or spa heated by gas or electricity (a heat pump included).
- At least 18 inches of pipe between the filter and the heater, or separate lines or fittings ready for solar. Pools without a heater need this too.
Our solar pool heating systems are SRCC 400 compliant.

Questions builders ask
No. Only a pool that will be heated needs solar or a heat pump as its main heat. A pool built without a heater still has to be plumbed so solar pool heating can be added later.
Yes, as a backup. On a new pool, or a pool getting its first heater, the main heat has to be solar, a heat pump or another renewable source. Replacing the gas heater on a pool that's already heated is still fine under Title 24.
Yes. A heat pump as the main heater is the other common way to meet it. Solar heats the pool with the sun instead of gas or electricity.
Yes, across the South Coast air district (Orange County and most of the Inland Empire). Under its Rule 1146.2, a pool heater installed at a newly built home from January 1, 2028, or at an existing home from January 1, 2031, has to be zero-emission, which rules out gas. Gas heaters already in place can keep running. The district reviews those dates by mid-2027.
Almost always, and the panels plumb into the equipment that's already there. If the pool is already heated, the Title 24 sizing rule doesn't apply, just the local permit. A pool getting its first heater follows the same rule as a new one.
California's Solar Rights Act covers solar pool heating: an HOA can set reasonable rules, and an application it hasn't denied in writing within 45 days counts as approved, unless it asked for more information.
